The services inspected are in essence the new version of Wilderness Experiences, our main crisis intervention service supporting children in care. In August 2017, following changes in Ofsted registration of ‘mobile services’, we had to make changes to the way Wilderness Experiences operated.
These changes involved recruiting another two managers and procuring a substantial property portfolio so we could continue to deliver our tried and tested crisis intervention service, but from 3 ‘children’s homes’ with supporting outreach properties.
This confirmation of outstanding has come from two different Ofsted inspectors. It is even more welcome given the significant reinvestment we have made to ensure our crisis intervention services were not interrupted, irrespective of legislative changes.
We are thrilled with the commitment our teams have shown in ensuring we continue to deliver excellence in supporting children in care, and we are grateful for your continued support and referrals to AWW Ltd. Below we have included some anecdotal statements made by the inspectors visiting our services, which you will shortly be able to see featuring in the reports for our services.
‘The company have embraced the changes and absolutely thrived on it – in such a short space of time it really is a great achievement.’
‘What stands out is the confidence of the staff and the parenting feel they give to the care of the children. It really is a nurturing environment.’
‘There is a real sense of fun but with the right balance.’
‘The staff have a good relationship with the managers and feel confident in their leadership.’
‘Managers are very pro-active around the care of the children.’
‘What certainly stands out is children are clearly engaged and achieving in very short periods of time.’
We would also like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention the intended opening of our new home; Howgills. Howgills will be able to accommodate up to 6 children and young people, 2/3 in long term placements and 3/4 crisis placements. It is based in the south of Cumbria, very close to the North Yorkshire border. Howgills will be managed by a very experienced manager with an excellent track record. We are currently finalising arrangements for registration with Ofsted and look forward to welcoming our first children into the home this spring.
