Borrowdale View is one of our Ofsted registered homes that acts as a local hub for our Wilderness Experiences and outdoor education. It is home to both planned and emergency admissions as a result of crisis intervention, and support is supplied to any young person who has been subject to abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Based in the rural community of Cumbria, the residential service is designed to improve young people’s life chances by enabling them to reflect in a safe, relaxed environment away from the risks associated with their originating home areas. Many of the children within Borrowdale View have experienced trauma or dysfunction within their home environments and have difficulty regulating their emotions and behaviours.

Borrowdale View has spacious bedrooms, two communal living spaces, a fully equipped kitchen and a separate contact room for meetings and family visits. Above the garage, which is used as a game and exercise space, is an additional room which the home used as a therapy space. We aim to provide a settled period of residential care with a therapeutic emphasis to help the young people recover from experiences which may have rendered them vulnerable.

As part of our Wilderness Experiences, the children at Borrowdale View benefit from our outdoor education & programmes that develop teamwork skills such as camping, rock climbing and canoeing. These experiences provide the young people with opportunities, skills and confidence, while also offering a stable home life.

This specific location offers a home to young people aged between 8 and 17 and is a dual registered mix home and offers both short-term and long-term placements. These long-term placements are focused on providing ongoing support for children who have been through our 17-week programme who then may require additional support. We help make Borrowdale View a home where they can learn new skills and experiences and broaden their horizons. We create an environment where young people can learn to cope with their feelings and thrive.

Borrowdale View seeks to be relentless in the pursuit of high expectations and aspirations for the children in our care. The structure is provided through daily living routines, group activities and one-to-one time with key workers. We encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles and pride ourselves in the success of our outdoor activity program that we achieve together. Positive behaviour is celebrated, and young people are encouraged to reflect on negative behaviour and unwanted consequences through key work sessions.

For reasons of security and risk mitigation, we do not wish to uncover too much on this page about the geography of Borrowdale View. For any further information, please contact our referral team today for a chat or to request a Statement of Purpose at referrals@awwltd.com.
